GCN Goron Mines RTA

Runs should start with a blank file in slots 1, 2, and 3, as all files are used during the run. (Only two are used if not safety saving for Coro TD.)

Getting the boomerang is 1m43s slower than the optimal route, but it can make Goron Mines easier. For notes on the route with boomerang, see Addenda. For the old route that is 5+ minutes slower (Bo TD, completes Eldin Twilight), see this page.

It is helpful to watch a top run on the leaderboard for reference when learning, as this route document can only go into so much detail.

Boomerang route

Getting the boomerang is 1m43s slower than the optimal route, but it can make Goron Mines easier. These are the changes required:

  • After getting the Iron Boots, save in Ordon on File 1
  • [same as route above until Forest Temple]
  • Early Monkeys (This will also activate Early Boss Fights for later on)
    • Save on File 2
    • BiT behind load zone
    • BiTE
      • Perform BiTE and load File 1 (outside Bo's House)
    • Soft reset as soon as the cutscene starts playing (Start+X+B), then mash start as soon as the screen starts to fade out to skip the cutscene (timing isn't precise)
  • Load File 2 (Forest Temple)
  • Kill one or both walltulas with deku baba nuts or as wolf by luring them lower as human
    • Alternatively, try to climb past one or both walltulas
  • Light torches
  • Void out before crossing the monkey chain to Ook (this sets EBF to 0 in preparation for BiTE)
  • Cross over monkey chain to Ook
  • Ook
  • Boomerang
  • Savewarp
  • Head to Ooccoo (merges with optimal route)
  • [no changes until entering Goron Mines]
  • Boomerang can be used for:
    • Early Elevator
    • Goron Mines first room to LJA across lava
    • Goron Mines tektite room to skip cutting down the bridge
    • Goron Mines room before Dangoro to skip Key Shard 2
    • Goron Mines room before Dangoro on the return trip
    • Goron Mines outdoor area to skip activating and riding magnet
